The injury battles of goalkepper of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Carl Ikeme who is currently out injured for the third time this season, could force coach Gernot Rohr to hasten talks with erstwhile goalkepper and captain Vincent Enyeama.

Unbelievable! NFF to spend N50m on AGA, admits Super Falcons woes …As Reps blast Dalung, NFF for snubbing Super Falcons

Despite grumbles from some quarters of the ill-treatment meted to the Super Falcons by the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF who despite owing the players and officials still went on to charter a flight to watch the final of the Africa Women’s Nations Cup in Cameroon, the NFF is still engaged in wasteful spending.
According to Vanguard, the leadership of the NFF is going ahead to squander over N50 million to host its Annual General Assembly, AGA this weekend at the Best Western Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos without the approval of the Board of the Federation.
It was gathered that some Board members are not happy that at a time the NFF is being portrayed in bad light before Nigerians with the disgraceful protests carried out by the Super Falcons over their unpaid allowances, the NFF president, Amaju Pinnick could want to host an AGA.
A source close to the NFF said that “members of the Board are not happy with Pinnick because they feel he is running a one man show. He doesn’t seek approval from members before embarking on programmes.
“The AGA will cost the federation over N50 million. Even if the money is sourced from other avenues, the Board still needs to approve it. Why can’t the federation use that money to pay part of the allowances of the protesting Falcons.”
The source added that “over 100 participants are expected to attend the AGA. This include 37 Chairmen of state Football Associations and the same number of secretaries, chairmen of affiliate bodies like the referees and coaches association, 12 members of the Executive Committee, secretariat staff of the NFF and about 20 other invited guests and stakeholders.”

Meanwhile, Members of the House of Representatives have strongly frowned at the ‎way the Nigerian government treated the victorious female national team, otherwise known as Super Falcons, who recently won the nations’ cup.
The lawmakers strongly slammed the Minister of Youths and Sports, Mr. Solomon Dalong, and the Nigerian Football Federation for failing to pay their match bonuses and allowances.
It is no news that the female national football team won the 10th edition of the African Women championship just concluded in Cameroon and were left uncelebrated and not paid their entitlements.
Following the development, the enraged players invaded the national assembly to protest the refusal of the government to pay them their money.
At its sitting on Thursday, the House condemned Dalong and the NFF, saying that their actions brought shame upon Nigeria.
A former Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Sports, Mrs. Ayo Omidiran, had sponsored a motion on the burning issue.
Omidiran, who is from Osun State, noted that, “For the past two weeks, the space has been filled with the cries of these ladies.

  • Ronaldo works harder than every other player, that’s why he is world-class – Ex-Man Utd midfielder

Ronaldo works harder than every other player, that’s why he is world-class – Ex-Man Utd midfielder

Former Red Devils man Markus Neumayr believes LionelMessi is more naturally talented but has lauded his old team-mate’s work ethic and desire to be the greatest
Former Manchester United midfielder Markus Neumayr has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo’s desire to be regarded as the best player in the world, insisting his work ethic is unrivalled.
Ronaldo received the Ballon d’Or award – football’s greatest individual honour – for the fourth time on Monday, pipping Barcelona star Lionel Messi to the accolade.
The 31-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable 2016 after helping Real Madrid win the Champions League, before captaining Portugal to European Championship glory.
Neumayr – a United youth academy graduate who trained with the first team during the 2005-06 campaign, before moving on without having made an appearance for the club – has suggested Messi is more naturally talented than Ronaldo.
However, the current FC Luzern man reckons there isn’t another player around who works as hard as Ronaldo does.
Recalling what it was like training with Ronaldo at United, Neumayr exclusively told Goal: “You saw from the beginning that he had so much talent.
“I guess he doesn’t have the same talent as Messi on one level, but he works harder than everybody else. This is why he is the world-class player he is.
“When I met him for the first time at United he had a completely different body. He started to work on it every day. Another example is his heading ability. Through hard work he developed into a player who is one of the best headers of a ball in the world. Every single ability was increased permanently because he did everything for it.”
Although Neumayr never made a first-team appearance for United, despite captaining their reserve side, he insists he holds great respect for then-Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
“He was a coach with great charisma,” he added. “His style was kind of carrot and stick. If he did talk to you he either praised you or spoke in a way you thought you were going to experience the last days of your life.
“I had a lot of respect for him because he was 100 percent honest. Some players could not handle that, but for me I only can say that I appreciated knowing what he really thought. He had an eye for us young players and did always know where we were.”

  • Anichebe nearing Nigeria return

    Anichebe nearing Nigeria return

It was June 2011. Nigeria were in Addis Ababa playing Ethiopia with two more games of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to go.
Guinea were top of the group, and had just beaten Madagascar 4-1 and the Super Eagles needed a result ahead of their next game away to Madagascar in order to take the race to the final game in Abuja, where they would face the Guineans in a win or bust match later that October.
Ike Uche had given Nigeria the lead, but the hosts came storming back to score twice and were looking on course for a famous and shock win, one that would end Nigeria’s hopes of qualification with two matches to go.
Striker Victor Anichebe was on the bench that day, not starting because of a slight strain. The clock was winding down, nerves were jangling and Nigeria were increasingly unable to find a breakthrough.
Anichebe climbed off the dugout, came over to a team official and asked what would happen if the Super Eagles lost.
“If we lose, we are out,” he was told. “And if we draw,” he pressed on. “A draw means we are still in it,” was the response.
Without hesitation, Anichebe, then with Everton, went over to then coach Samson Siasia and said he wanted to get on, strain and all. Siasia took one look at him, saw the fierce determination in his eyes and asked him to warm up.
Within minutes he was on the pitch, and a blunt Nigeria attack sparked into life as he muscled his way around the left channel, raising Ethiopia defenders with power, grit and sheer force of will, crashing a shirt against the crossbar as he took it upon himself to haul Nigeria back into contention.
Fortunately, Joseph Yobo rose highest to plant in a late goal that earned Nigeria a desperate draw, but Anichebe’s hands were firmly all over the result.
One game and three months later, against Madagascar in September, he was thrown in from the start, and put up an even more explosive display as Nigeria ran out 2-0 winners. Unfortunately, that was to cost him. A full-blooded challenge in the final three minutes left him with what originally looked like a minor groin injury.
“He was huge for us today. He did all the rights things, played well and unfortunately, had to come up in the last three minutes with an injury,” said Siasia at the time.
Instead, it turned out to be more serious and kept him out for months. Nigeria failed to qualify for the Nations Cup, Anichebe lost his place at Everton, and his career tanked.
He never fully got back to his best, and a subsequent move to West Bromwich Albion followed as he tried to get his career back on track.
That didn’t happen either, and he ended up being released by the Baggies at the end of his contract, before being handed a lifeline by David Moyes, his former manager at Everton. Anichebe is now repaying that faith so handsomely that Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has floated the idea of recalling him to the Nigeria squad.
“His inclusion is well merited. He is doing very well in a top league for a top team, it’s only natural we call him up. I’m happy for him, he will add a lot to how we play,” Rohr said of the now 28-year-old.
With two games against Cameroon on the radar next year, Rohr will be aware he needs bruising, physical fighters to add to the finesse of the majority of his squad, and an in-form Anichebe offers all that and more.
However, consideration must be given to the player’s own needs. He has spent the better part of his career in and out of the treatment room, a major reason why his career has never really hit the heights it promised earlier on.
His physiology and past history means he requires careful management in order to stay free of injury. African football pitches, with due respect, are the worst possible places to try to keep a player with his injury profile fit on. Besides, he is just starting to rebuild his career, and this would not exactly be the best time to disrupt the progress he is making.
It is entirely possible that the Super Eagles can do with having Anichebe for the two games against Cameroon next autumn. What is not in doubt however, is that the national team should not put him, or any other player in the awkward position of having to make a sacrifice that could prove detrimental to their individual careers.
Anichebe is as committed as any other Nigerian. He never wavered when he licked Nigeria over England without any equivocation, even when he had the chance to stall. Instead, he came over to play for the Nigeria under-23s in an Olympic qualifier even when he hardly knew his way around the country, and needed to confirm on the phone that the gentleman coming to pick him up at the airport was indeed the Nigeria Olympic team secretary.
Every time he has played for Nigeria, he has given nothing but a hundred percent. It is time for Nigeria, and Rohr, to make this one sacrifice for him, and let him be. At least, until he declares of his own volition, that he wants to come back and suit up in green and white.
For now, let’s just enjoy the fact that he’s back, playing and scoring again.

  • War without End! Controversy Trails Heartland FC Pre-Season programme .As Parallel Management lay claims

War without End! Controversy Trails Heartland FC Pre-Season programme .As Parallel Management lay claims

The power tussle for the soul of Heartland FC leadership is far from being settled as two parties are at loggerhead over who takes charge of the relegated side. It could be recalled that at the ending of last season, the Press Secretary to the Governor made a press release appointing Mr. Etuemena Chibuzo as the club’s Chairman. Unfortunately, Mr. Etuemena and his team could not deliver on the task, which was to make sure the Naze Millionaires escaped relegation.
After a poor outing which saw Heartland tasting relegation for the first time in history, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo who happens to be the supervisor of the club constituted a committee and mandated it to accept applications and appoint worthy personnel who would steer the ship of the Owerri based side back to NPFL. The Deputy Speaker then appointed Mr. Etuemna as General Manager of the club and Mr. Oscar Keke as Chief Operating Officer.
However, it was gathered that Mr. Etumena’s faction denied knowledge of any change in the board and claimed he remains the Chairman of the club and would readily quit if any appointment were done official from the source that made him chairman.
Recently it was gathered that the government has asked the two parties to settle amicably. Mr. Etuemena requested that some of his allies be added to the management team and in specific positions. The committee, which is influenced by the Deputy speaker, reneged and this has caused Mr. Etuemena’s camp to sit tight as chairman of the club pending further instructions from the Government of Imo state.
A source close to the club revealed that the Deputy Speaker’s camp have access to funds meant to run the club and they have gone ahead to hire a new technical Adviser in the person of Emmanuel Deutsch and also provided him with a house and car.
Most of the former players who featured for the side last season are back to training and have been participating in the pre-season programme initiated by coach Emmanuel Deutsch. The lads hold their training sessions at the Dan Anyiam stadium while the other factions are carrying out a pre-season campaign at the Old stadium along Tetlow road, Owerri.
Another controversy erupted on social media where Mr. Cajetan Nkwopara posted a report claiming that Heartland FC had played a friendly game at the old stadium with different sets of players. Commenting on the post, Amar Ignis, A renowned journalist of Imo decent and the Media Officer of the NNL noted that there have been conflicting reports from both Solomon Onu who is the media officer and Mr. Cajetan Nkwopara. The conversation ensued and Mr. Cajetan questioned the authority who made Solomon Onu the Media officer.
