Okwaraji’s Family Express Dissatisfaction on Government’s Role in Remembering Fallen Hero’s

Speaking to Sports Ambassador newspaper at the inaugural Match of Sam Okwaraji Memorial Football Tournament  at the Sam Okwaraji Sports Complex in Orlu , a member of the Okwaraji family and elder brother to the late legend, Mr. Patrick Okwaraji said that Nigerians are unhappy with the continued trend by where fallen hero of Nigerian extraction are been treated forgetfully.
Mr. Okwaraji pointed out that Nigeria lack committed sports men and women because of the system used, “Robbing Peter to pay Paul syndrome”, adding that Nigerian football decline is not as a result of lack of talent but lack of motivation, infrastructure and proper administration by administrators to co-ordinate and enhance what we have.
Appreciating the sponsor of the tournament, former governorship aspirant under the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, chief Okey Eze who doubles as the CEO of Okechukwu Theodore Ezeh Foundation (OTEF) for remembering and honoring his late brother who died while in active service for his country 27 years ago, he expressed optimizing that the tournament will expose the grass root players throughout the 27 local government areas of Imo State
Mr. Patrick Okwaraji while calling on other private and well meaning individuals to borrow leaf from Chief Okey Eze, he urged Nigerians in general to cultivate the culture of Immortalizing, remembering /honoring our hero’s living or dead and maintaining that organizing a tournament on their behalf is a cost effective and efficient way of inspiring youths and impacting positively on them.
Meanwhile, Nigeria Ex international, Mr. Emeka Ezeugo has criticized the Nigerian government for failing to honor late Samuel Okwaraji who died on the field of play during a match against Angola at the National stadium Lagos.
Mr. Emeka Ezeugo who shared his memorable experience with Sam Okwaraji during the qualifiers and in the Olympics, Korea 1988, told Sports Ambassador that most Imolites and Nigerians will remain grateful to the Benefactor of the Tournament, Chief Okey Eze for remembering and honoring the late football Icon and prayed for its sustenance.
Mr. Emeka Ezeugo State that government has done nothing at all to remembering late Sam Okwaraji, a trend he said have been ongoing in   Nigeria, “Keshi and Amodu died and they did absolutely nothing for them, that’s why Egwavon stated that Nigeria is not worth dying for, but I know the likes of Okey Eze through this Tournament will send a different message to the younger generation of footballers that our country can be worth dying for”, he concluded.
